Introduce your students to the timeless craft of blacksmithing! Our Junior Blacksmithing Classes are designed specifically for school groups, scouts, and home-schooled students, providing a safe, insured, and engaging environment where young minds can experience the thrill of working with their hands.

We run one of Queensland’s largest Knife Making & Blacksmithing workshops and we often get asked about kid-friendly classes. We’ve uses our experience of running 1000’s of blacksmithing classes to design a friendly, safe, and fun blacksmithing experience for children.

With a focus on safety and guided by experienced instructors, students will learn the fundamentals of forging, shaping, and creating with metal. This hands-on class not only teaches practical skills but also instils patience, creativity, and problem-solving—qualities that last a lifetime.

Our goal is to keep the art of blacksmithing alive and thriving for the next generation. We aim to inspire a sense of pride in craftsmanship, encouraging young learners to take on the challenge of shaping metal and discovering their potential in a supportive, fun atmosphere.

In our Junior Blacksmithing Classes, students will have the opportunity to create their very own hand-forged leaf and feather keychains. These unique projects are perfect for beginners, combining simple yet rewarding techniques to spark creativity and build foundational skills.

Under the careful guidance of our instructors, students will learn how to heat, shape, and texture metal to create these beautiful, nature-inspired keychains they can proudly take home. Each piece will serve as a personal memento of their blacksmithing experience—a lasting reminder of what they can accomplish with their own hands.

Students will learn:

  • Basic blacksmithing techniques like heating, hammering, and shaping metal to create unique designs.
  • Adding details to the metal to mimic the natural textures of leaves and feathers.
  • Proper techniques for working safely and effectively with blacksmithing tools like anvils, forges, & hammers.
  • Understanding how to manage and work with heated metal safely.
  • Developing hand-eye coordination, precision, and control with each hammer strike.
  • Learning to visualize and craft a creative finished product from raw material.
  • Comprehensive guidance on handling tools and hot metal in a safe, insured environment.

Guardians/teachers will need to be present in all classes with a minimum of 4+ students we can accommodate a maximum number of 10 students for this class.

Alternatively, if you have students who’re not interested in blacksmithing, we also offer Junior Jewellery-Making Classes. We can run these classes parallel or stand alone and accommodate another 10 students. If you need a few extra students, please contact us.
